COC (SPECIAL LIMIT) DECK OFFICER

WHAT IT IS

The programme aims to provide a new route for locals to work as CoC (Special Limits) Deck Officers onboard vessels plying within Special Limits. As Special Limits refer to only 30 nautical miles off Singapore Waters, Deck Officers can look forward to sailing closer to their homes and loved ones.

Successful applicants will have to attend an intensive 24.5-month training programme comprising of 4 training phases:

Phase 1: Pre-sea classroom training at Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) - 4.5 months

Phase 2: OJT onboard ship (Sea service) - 13 months

Phase 3: Classroom examination preparatory course (SMA) - 5.5 months

Phase 4: Specialisation training - 1.5 months

After completing the training and passing examinations, Deck Officer Cadets will attain CoC Class 5 Special Limit and be a qualified Chief Mate.

BENEFITS

  • Training allowances of up to $1,400 per month
  • Course fees fully funded
  • Salary up to $3,000 after the training

WHO CAN APPLY

  • Singaporeans and Singapore PRs with at least GCE ‘N’ level passes in English, Maths, Science or Workplace Literacy Level 5 (WPL 5)
  • Completed NS for males
  • Physically fit
  • No color blindness and night blindness
  • Not more than 6/60 or 300 degree eye vision
  • Minimum GCE ‘N’ level pass in English, Maths and Science

WHEN TO APPLY

There are two application periods in a year

  • January to February
  • July to August
