SHIPPING FINANCIER

WHAT IT IS

Shipping finance comprises a range of different financial services. Relationship Managers are required to have a firm grasp of them all in order to provide the best solutions to help meet the financing needs of their shipping customers. Alternatively, one can choose to become a specialist in any of the following:

  • Corporate Finance
  • Debt
    • Senior and subordinated debt
    • Structured debt finance
    • Export-credit and project finance
    • Bilateral, club and syndicated loans
  • Merger & Acquisition
  • Advisory and Risk Management Solutions

Ship financiers are responsible for

  • Creating and marketing the bank’s products to existing and new shipping customers
  • Performing credit reviews in a timely manner

Starting pay ranges from $2,500 to $3,000 per month, with competitive bonuses depending on performance.

WHAT IS REQUIRED

  • A degree in preferably any one of the following disciplines: Finance, Business, Accountancy
  • Knowledge and experience with the transport/shipping/offshore sector will be preferred
  • Analytical abilities
  • Team player with good networking skills
  • Ability to work under stress and adhere to tight deadlines

CAREER PROSPECTS

Possible advancements or lateral movements include:

  • Management of ship financing desks in financial institutions
  • Research analysts
  • Credit risk managers, finance managers or CFOs in maritime companies
